Until the legislative Yuan made the cable television method in 1993, there were only three terrestrial broadcast stations in Taiwan. After the spread of cable TV, the old three stations are called "Lǎo sān tái" (the old three channels), and the cable broadcastings are called "Dì sì tái" (the fourth channel).
